Job
search is a harrowing process and everyone will tell you the same. There are
very few fortunate souls that have gotten a job easily, that haven’t struggled through
the same mind-numbing task of searching job boards. One would think that looking
for a job has gotten easier with modern technology, but experts from websites
like The CV Bank believe that it has
gotten complicated. I’m inclined to
agree with them.
When
I first started looking for a job, I was prepared to face an uphill task. As a recent
graduate with virtually no work experience to speak off, I was aware that my
chances were small. Nevertheless, I was determined to find the best job I
could. I registered at several job posting boards, sent out several
applications with limited amounts of success.
I was wasting my time
To
be frank, I knew that much of my time was being wasted. I also knew that there
were several opportunities for me to take up part time or freelancing jobs. That
would have an impact on my CV. In fact, even learning something new would be
more beneficial than just sitting by my laptop for hours on end, looking for a
job. But I wanted a steady occupation. I worried that if I slowed down now, I
would never get a job.
That’s
when I heard about CV databases and a slightly different approach to job
search. I was hesitant at first. CV databases don’t really have a stellar reputation
and I didn’t want my personal contact details to be public knowledge. My friend
encouraged me to take that risk. I was wasting my time and that frustrated me.
Finally,
I gave in and uploaded by CV to a website that I had the most confidence in. While
the number of promotional and marketing calls and emails didn’t increase, I did
start to get better interview offers.
Finally,
I went for an interview with a company that hadn’t
posted a job advertisement on the boards. They wanted a very specific candidate
so they contacted the CV database I had registered with directly. That interview
was a success and I got a great job.
Sometimes,
you need to disregard what the rumours say and go with the facts. I did that
when I uploaded by CV to the The
CV Bank. I haven’t regretted
that decision yet. If you want to know more, you can call them at +44 20 3301
